Frequently Asked Questions

You are responsible for obtaining a marriage license by visiting a local municipal office or City Hall nearest to you. You will need to bring 2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include your photo.

Acceptable government-issed ID includes: birth certificate, valid passport, Canadian citizenship card, valid driver's license, valid Ontario Photo Card

You will be required to pay a fee for the licence and the fee may vary depending on the municipality but the fee is around $150.

A marriage licence is valid for 90 days from the date it was issued. This means that you should not obtain it more than 90 days before your wedding day or it will expire. It is a good idea to apply for the marriage license at least six weeks in advance in the case that any problems arise with the application.

Do we need to bring witnesses to our wedding ceremony?

Yes! legally you must have two witneses present to sign your marraige licence. They must be over the age of 16.

We encourage couples to write their own vows as it can add that extra personal touch to the ceremony.  We can provide some sample vows to get you started.

We always recommend sooner than later. We book anywhere from a year to a day out. And if you’re planning to get married on a popular date (e.g. a Saturday in the summer or fall), we suggest booking as soon as possible.

This is a tricky one. Legally, no. It is required that you have a licensed officiant or commissioner sign your marriage licence and file it for processing if you want to be legally married.

If you have a friend or family member you would like to perform your ceremony, we have a package available where your loved one can lead the ceremony while we take care of the legal bit. Get in touch for more information!

In the very unlikely event that an officiant becomes unavailable the day of a wedding, we have a network of officiants we can call on to step in. We take our responsibilities seriously and almost nothing can stop us from being there for you.

We customize the ceremonies to reflect you. We perform non-religoius cermonies that put you at the centre. Creative and personalized ceremonies are our speciality. Your marriage is one of the most important relationships you’ll ever have—let us help you start off strong and thrive for life.

Thanks for the invite but I know you want to celebrate with your friends and family. I will leave shortly after the ceremony ends.
